Cosmic Cat Review

Cosmic Cat is a video slot machine in Microgaming’s classic slot collection. The game has three reels, one active bet line, and a multi-column payout table. An actual red line represents the centerline, and as with any traditional one-armed bandit, it’s possible for symbols to land off-center and thus not count.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Cosmic Cat is fast-paced but streamlined and relaxing. If you want a game that you can kick back and play without stressing over multi-option features, typical of the five reel video slots, then this may be it. Available coin sizes range from as small as $0.25 to as high as $5. You can play one or two coins per spin. If you play one, then you’ll use the left column of the payout table. If you play two coins, then you’ll use the right side. The payouts scale evenly across both columns, and there’s actually an any bar feature that isn’t available on two-coin bets, which makes one coin the better play.

Special Features

The Cosmic Cat symbol is both the jackpot symbol and a wild symbol. It can substitute for any other symbol in the set, but it doesn’t have a built-in multiplier. It does, however, have an any feature. Therefore, anytime you hit one or two Cosmic Cat symbols, you’ll at least win something. As mentioned, there’s also an any bar feature, which is only available on one-coin bets.

Graphics and Audio

The graphics and audio on this machine are solid but not exceptional. Microgaming does classic slot machines with three reels very well, but they’ve broken the formula here a bit in terms of music, sound effects, graphics, fonts and so forth. It’s not bad by any stretch but doesn’t feel up to the Microgaming standard.

Jackpot

In order to hit the jackpot, you’ll need a Cosmic Cat touching the red line on each reel. With a one-coin bet, the jackpot is 500 coins, or $2,500 at the max coin size. With a two-coin bet, the jackpot is 1,000 coins, or $5,000 at the max coin size.

Overall

The oddest thing about Cosmic Cat is that it actually promotes playing the “lesser” side of the paytable, and that truly makes it a slot machine for low rollers. Feel comfortable playing $0.25 a spin. You might be tempted to bet that second quarter, but the any bar feature is so common that you’d really just be throwing money away in the hopes of hitting a higher jackpot at odds that are no better.
