Deuces Wild Review

Deuces Wild is an online video poker game by Playtech. As the name suggests, all twos are wild, but to offset that advantage, the game requires a three-of-a-kind rather than a pair of jacks to break even.

Gameplay

Coin sizes range from $0.05 to $5, and game allows up to five coins per play. Note that there is a significant payout advantage at the jackpot level for playing the fifth coin. A player who prefers to play less is better off playing Jacks or Better. Use the minus and plus buttons to adjust the coin size and the Bet One button to cycle through the number of coins in play. Once the stake is set, click Deal to begin.

The machine will deal five cards and auto-hold any obvious keepers. The player then choose which cards to hold using the Click to Hold buttons and then clicks Deal again to enter the second phase. The machine then deals to replace any discarded cards. A hand is determined, and a payout is awarded if the hand is valuable enough.

Special Features

After any win, the machine will offer the opportunity to go double or nothing on all or half the winnings. The game allows the playing to continue doubling up as long as there is winnings left to stake and the player has not reached the machine limit. At most casinos, the double-up limit is $2,000.

Graphics & Audio

Playtech breaks the traditional mold with its video poker games. Purists may not like it, but most players will find it refreshing. This machine has a good art style, the playing cards are very easy to identify and the sounds effect are authentic and not distracting at all.

Jackpot

Playing five coins, the jackpot, which requires a natural royal flush, is 4,000 coins, which is worth $20,000 at the max coin size. The highest possible win is $22,000 but that requires the player to risk $1,000 of the $20,000 prize.

Overall

Deuces Wild is a solid video poker experience, and it offers video poker fans a nice change of pace. The decision to play for a flush or a three-of-a-kind or greater is a lot less common in other formats. On a full-pay machine, the return on Deuces Wild is greater than 100 percent, but that is not the case here, and Jacks or Better by Playtech is slightly more lucrative in both the short and long term.
